Teacher Requested for Sri Lanka

The Colombo Theological Seminary in Sri Lanka has had a lecturer pull out for a course they were planning in July of this year.

They have a need for a lecturer to come 12th-19th of July 2009.

The teaching subject is flexible and could be either, Theological Method, the Synoptics or the Pentateuch.

The course is for their MA degree so higher qualifications to teach this course will be necessary.

Do let me know if you have an interest in this assignment and if you would like more details.

The Team Behind the Teacher

While with articles on Theologians Without Borders the emphasis is often on the ‘teacher’ that is requested and the ‘teacher’ who volunteers and goes to serve, I want to underscore the importance of building a team behind you.

Living in the US at the moment the media is full of reports of foreclosures, mounting debt and growing unemployment. This saturation can easily leave one paralyzed on the sitting room couch.

Today I am leaving with a student team for a visit to Asia during the Spring Break. One of the joys in our preparation has been going to churches and other groups with the team, sharing the story behind our visit and asking for their support. As a student group this has been a good educational ploy to interview the students as they have prepared for the questions exceedingly well and learned much about the country and the people that they are visiting.

As a team we have been amazed at the generosity of people, their interest and their willingness to partner with us during this venture. Each time we have spoken we have passed around a pad and pen and invited people to write their names and email addresses so they can receive our irregular newsletters (regularity subject to Internet access). The notes, letters, cards and gifts have been positively overwhelming. The growing number of supporters feel like they are part of our team and indeed they are. We have already set up times when we can go back and report on our activities and share our insights and encouragements.

If you are exploring going on an assignment as a teacher and especially if finance is the greatest hurdle, let me encourage you to share this possibility with others and enlist them on your team. The benefits will be so much more than financial.

Do let me know of your interest and the window of opportunity through which you are looking.

Come Over and Help Us!

A request has been received from a seminary in Myanmar where they would like a teacher to come in or around the month of November this year.

The dates and length of time are negotiable but the months between October and March are the better ones for visiting this country.

The request is to teach a course on the Church (especially how new ones are established and nurtured) or Christian Leadership or Pastoral Care.

Do let me know if you are interested in exploring this possibility or you have some questions.

Slumdog Millionaire and Theologians Without Borders

The award-winning film, Slumdog Millionaire, has turned attention toward India and specifically to the plight of the thousands eking out an existence on the rubbish heaps and in the slums of the populous sub-continent.

Chennai Suburbs and Slums
A Christian leader in Chennai is looking for someone to help strengthen and sharpen their ministries which are aimed at leadership training and community development.

He, with his growing network of churches, is involved in helping the poor gain basic medical care. In addition to the worship and fellowship ministries of the churches they are involved in developing micro credit schemes that kick start new work projects, feeding the hungry, caring for orphans and helping young people who have lost their way.

Visit of Encouragement
This leader is requesting a visit by someone or a team that might encourage and equip them.

If you’d like more details and would like to express an interest do write to me at this email address: geoffpound[@]gmail.com
